NO ONE PROJECT LOOKS LIKE ANOTHER
Ideas Only assists in guiding you through the design process that suites your personal profile. Geri strives to guide you in creating spaces that reflect your lifestyle not hers. Your home is not a showroom but a place that should make you feel good the moment you walk through the door. It is a place that soothes the soul, hugs the heart, and calms the nerves. It is your place - to love and be proud of. The images below reveal individual clients' unique personalities, preferences, and lifestyles. They demonstrate the fact that a good designer who studies, understands, and believes in the principles of design can work magic in any space regardless of style.

Mediterranean Suite
Gutting the second floor of a 1933 eclectic brick and stone home in University City was the first step in transporting this homeowner to another place and time. "Let's not be another white box with pops of color. Let's be the color. Let's be the design." This project started by being authentic in a way that honors the classic design elements of multiple cultures surrounding the Mediterranean Sea. Welcome to a cozy boutique hotel far far away.

This is the beginning of a University City dining room gallery wall. Start with a wall color that is rated with a low light reflective value (LRV) - 20% or less. I avoid the word dark because many of you fear dark. The LRV allows the art work to take center stage. The colors are embolden and the images have space to breath. This hue is Benjamin Moore's Mysterious # AF-565. Maybe it's black, maybe its deep blue, but frankly it does not matter. The wall is merely the backdrop to everything else in the room.

Des Peres family room makeover. Everything is different. Not one item in this room was selected randomly. This is an example of how a well planned transitionally designed room should appear - honoring the elements and principals of design with big character and personal drama.

The bones of this wet bar entertaining area are quite transitional but...
the star element in this space is the hand painted Mexican ceramic Talavera sink brought back on a flight by the homeowners as “carry-on luggage” from La Cruz Mexico. Keeping with the clients’ energetic personality and love for “mixing things up” the Brazilian Azul Macaubus granite counter top was selected. The remaining design elements fall into place with the high gloss white cabinets, tiny mother-of-pearl back splash, and the brass plated plumber’s pipe for the custom wall shelves. Adjacent to the open bar guests can dine at the gathering table or lounge near the revamped fireplace covered in tintype tiles repeating the stainless and nickel hues seen at the bar. The paint is also the same high luster metallic finish that is used on the other side of this double sided fireplace (living room). Who doesn’t want to sip a fine Pinot Noir in front of a cozy sexy fireplace?

These homeowners needed a place feel like they "got away" without going away. The focal art over the bed just had to be the place that is seared into the homeowner’s collective consciousness. Machu Picchu, the most famous archaeological site on the South American continent is shrouded by mist and surrounded by lush vegetation and steep escarpments. With a huge exposure to the outdoors we drew from that color palette and married it to the image in a six foot by four foot photograph – printed on canvas and placed in a floating frame. As they enter their bedroom they are greeted with nothing but nature inside and out. The biophilic affects are obvious.
The remaining design elements in the room are pulled from the photograph. The wall behind the bed is a deep iron ore, reflective of the mountain, giving the appearance that the image is floating and the colors are illuminated. The opposite wall is blanketed with a grass cloth in the deep blue hue seen in the receding mountains. The bedding brings attention to the focal in the room, adds dimensional color, shape, and form. The Capri shell pendant acts as the moon lighting the sky in the distance. Good night. Sleep well.

Bring on the high energy for these traveling nomads from Ladue. This living room pulls out the Bohemian flair to stretch the design principles. This client loves everything mixed up with styles taken from a broad and diverse range of sources. Nothing is a real match. The room is filled with a full spectrum of shapes, forms, colors, and textures. That's Bohemian. In the end this room needed to demonstrate an alternative counter culture to the traditional way.

Town & Country kitchen remodel seeking a clean no fuss no mess working space that honors biophilic design principles. Transitional design at its core starts with simplicity and can be embellished or not - that's the personal preference only the homeowner can decide.

Residences at the Chase condominium. Traditional design elements with a big splash of Hollywood glam. Note the important role the transitional pieces play in calming this space. Not everything can be traditional. Not everything can be furry and glitzy.
